Do All To The Glory of God - Is everything you do to the glory of God?

Are You Doing All For The Glory Of God?

Well it happened again.   Just as this memory verse challenge went up, I was already thinking and meditating on this verse.   The Lord sure has His ways, doesn’t He?

1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Here’s a good definition of  doing all to the glory of God – Be an honorable representation of God.  Wow! Is everything I do honoring God and representing Him as I should?

DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD!

Whatever I eat and whatever I drink – is it honoring to God?  Can I truly say thank you Lord for what I am about to put into my mouth?  Am I sure that I am not a stumbling block to someone around me who sees what I put into my mouth?  These are a couple good questions to ask myself each time I am ready to eat or drink something.  Basically, will it hurt my testimony and/or is it what God wants me to have right now?

I sure am glad that God gives us food and drink for our pleasure though too.  Aren’t you?  God certainly has given us food to enjoy; it is a gift from Him. Isn’t that about one of the best gifts we have?

Ecclesiastes 5:19 Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

I’m glad God included the eating and drinking into the all, otherwise I might have a tendency to leave it out. When He said all, He meant ALL.

So what’s on your to do list today?

Did you plan it by yourself or did you include God?  Did you ask Him to direct your steps so that whatever you do is for His glory?  That would be the best way to start my day.  I like the saying I’ve seen going around that says,

IN THE MORNING WHEN I RISE GIVE ME JESUS

Do All To The Glory of God - Is everything you do to the glory of God?

When I rise in the morning, may I start out saying, Jesus I need you today, please direct my steps in everything I do.  If I really meant that, then whatever I do, whatever direction I go, it will be for the glory of God.  It will be a testimony to others and it will draw me closer to the Lord.

And if it doesn’t, well then I need to leave it alone!  If it’s not bringing glory to my Lord, then it is not pleasing to Him and therefore it is sin.  Confess it that way and forsake it and make your next step for His glory.  I guess sin doesn’t have to be some horrible gross thing; sin is just leaving God out period, therefore it cannot bring glory to Him.

As I thought of all the good things God has given me and allowed me to do, I’ve asked myself the question, am I doing it to His glory?  Am I thinking of others first in what I do or is my doing for selfish reasons and/or for self glory?  Anything we do can be used to point someone to the Savior!  How important that it is done for His glory alone.

When reading the context of 1 Corinthians 10:31 one can see that what we do will bring glory to God if it makes Him known to those around us, if it edifies and does not present a stumbling block in any way.   So whatever you do – do it to God’s glory!  This is surely a great truth to instill into the hearts of our children and grandchildren.  I want to make sure I live it by example.
