Do You Know God?

I don’t do this often, but today I’m joining today with the Five Minute Friday community of writers who write for 5 minutes about a one-word prompt.  The Word for this week is KNOW.

The past few weeks, I’ve been engaged in a Bible study on beholding God.  Who really is the God of the Bible.  The word know worked well with my study this week as the verses I’ve been meditating on are verses regarding God and who He is and why I can trust Him.

Do you know God? If so, who is He?  Who is the God that you know?

The Bible says that to fear God is the beginning of knowledge. (Proverbs 1:7) So, if you really know God, then you fear Him.  And as you fear Him, you will definitely want to know Him more and more through His Word.

The God I know is The Only God that can be trusted:

  • He does not change – Mal 3:6
  • He brings the counsel of nations to nothing- Psalm 33:10-11 He makes our own plans of no effect
  • He does many wonderful works-Psalm 50:5
  • His thought toward us cannot be numbered (Psalm 139)
  • He is the Creator and made all by all by His great power and outstretched arm. – Jeremiah 32:17
  • His Kingdom rules over all – Psalm 93:1-2
  • He is from everlasting-Psalm 93
  • He does whatever He pleases in heaven, in earth, in the seas and in the deep places – Psalm 135:6
  • He is at the right hand of God and angels, authorities, and powers are made subject to Him – 1 Peter 3:22
  • There is none like Him for He is glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders – Exodus 15:11
  • He alone is holy – Revelation 15:4
  • All nation will come and worship before Him – Revelation 15:4
  • He is faithful, keeps his promises – Deuteronomy 7:9
  • He is ever merciful to all generations to those who love Him and keep His commands – Deuteronomy 7:9
  • Because of His mercies we are not consumed – Lamentation 3:22-23

Is this the God you know?

Take time daily to get to really know the God of the Bible.

Good advice, knowing God and trusting Him is the basis of everything else we know. I am your neighbour on fiveminutefriday.

Love this! So many great truths about God to help us stay grounded in Him.

Andrew Budek-Schmeisser

The God that I have come to know
sits by me as I sleep,
and down His cheeks the salt tears flow;
and I wake to hear Him weep.
He didn’t choose this death for me;
cancer’s consequence
of Adam’s sin and apathy,
and God makes no pretence
that this is just some learning gig,
something that will strengthen heart;
no, His red-rimmed eyes are big
as I am torn apart,
and He begs me hold this true:
“I’m here, and I will stay with you.”

    Wow! I love this. He sits by me as I sleep – He didn’t choose this death for me – It’s a consequence of sin and apathy. All so true. So thankful for God’s mercies that are new every morning. I love Psalm 139 and Psalm 23 – No matter where we are He with us and when we go through death’s door one day we can remember that death is just a shadow that ushers us to our King.
