Have you asked a hard thing of the Lord today? Two Great Lessons to learn from Elisha's life

Have You Thought Of Asking A Hard Thing From The Lord Today?

What are you asking from the Lord today? Have you thought of asking Him a hard thing? Remember nothing is too hard for the Lord? How often I neglect my prayer life because I really don’t believe that God will answer the hard things in my life. But He will, He does and He wants to.

Elisha was willing to ask a hard thing from the Lord. Elijah said to Elisha

2Ki 2:9  And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
2Ki 2:10  And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.

Two Great Lessons to learn from Elisha’s life

1. Elisha acted upon Elijah’s words.

We too need to act upon the words of the Lord. He tells us to Ask, to seek, to knock. He tell us to ask anything according to His will and it will be done. Have I done that? I need to do it more!

Elisha believed what Elijah said and asked for a double portion of his spirit. We too need to ask for the power of the Holy Spirit upon our lives.

Luke 11:13 – If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Did you listen?  HOW MUCH MORE our heavenly Father will give us the Holy Spirit if we ask.

Just as we want to give good things to our children, our heavenly Father wants to give us good things over and above what we could even ask or think. He wants to give us more of the power of the Holy Spirit upon our lives.

What might be done through each and every one of us if we would but ask for this wonderful gift!

2. Elisha asked a hard thing.

We too need to ask the Lord for hard things. Nothing is too hard for the Lord. Ask a hard thing and if it is of Him, it will be done.

Teach this to your children and grandchildren. Here are a couple of incidences that come to mind that happened in our lives.

1) As a young couple with small children, we were barely making ends meet. But God always provided. Our car was gone and I mean gone! It was good only for the junk yard. It was no longer able to make it as our family transportation. We took it to the Lord! No one knew about it. The very next day, a man in our church called us and wanted to give us a car! He never knew what was happening nor did he know that we had just prayed and asked the Lord to provide. What a testimony to God’s provision and for our children to see God’s mercy and grace in action!  They saw Him answer our prayers as a family!

2) Years later, our daughter was about to get married. We still were barely making ends meet. You know how much weddings can cost! We worked at being as frugal as possible, but it still costs money!

Not once did we go in debt over this wedding yet the Lord provided a beautiful wedding! Extra jobs were provided from the Lord which enabled us to provide for the wedding.

Long time friends of ours who did catering on the side, did it for us basically for free. We paid only for the cost of the food. What a blessing! But the icing on the cake for this wedding is this story:

A large item was donated to us and we were told we could do with it as we like. We opted to sell it. I did some research on this item and found out it was worth about $2000 dollars. My husband basically laughed and said it would never happen. But I chose to take it to the Lord and believe that He could do this hard thing.

Long story short, I contacted someone on the internet who dealt with this type of items. Can you guess what happened next?   THEY BOUGHT IT FOR $2000!  We gave $500 of it to the Lord’s work and the extra $1500 was used for the wedding!

10 years later, I still get so excited when I think about this! God did this! He did a hard thing for us, something we thought was impossible! He is The God of the impossible. Ask Him a hard thing today. He will answer!

Can you think of other hard things the Lord did in the Bible?  There are many, but the main one that comes to my mind was when he delivered the demon possessed boy in Mark 9.  That was definitely a hard thing, but it was not too hard for the Lord.

Do you have a loved one who is away from God or needs to be saved.  Don’t give up.  Keep bringing them to Jesus.  Nothing is too hard for Him.

Mark 9: 22-24

And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe,
all things are possible to him that believeth.

And straightway the father of the child cried out,
and said with tears,
Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

That is often my prayer.  Lord, I believe.  But please help my unbelief!
