How Do Your Children Grow? – Ways to Pray for your Children and Grandchildren
Parents, how do your children grow? Are you praying for them to grow physically and spiritually? Here are some important ways you can pray for your children and important truths you can instill into their minds and hearts. As I read daily Scriptures on the birth and life of Christ this month, it was so thrilling to see what the Holy Spirit impressed upon my heart.
Luke 2:40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
Four More Ways to Pray for Your Grandchildren
1. Pray that your children will grow strong physically
-
- The child (Jesus) grew; he was strong physically as well as spiritually. Wouldn’t it be sad if our children never grew. As you are praying this, teach the to keep their bodies under subjection and to not let bodily lusts take control. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: . . . Remind them over and over that their bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit so what we do with that body is important. Teach them to eat right and work hard. Remember the story of Daniel and the three Hebrew children; This is a good Bible example. Teach them this story and other biblical examples. Eating in a healthy way helps their bodies to grow strong and gives them clarity of thought. (This is a conviction to my own heart)
2. Pray they will grow strong Spiritually
-
- Pray first of all for their salvation by faith through faith in Christ. Then pray that they will grow in the Lord and become strong in Him and the power of His might. Pray they will desire the Lord above their necessary food. Job 23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
3. Pray they will be filled with wisdom
-
- Just like we hear the Christmas quote “Wisemen still seek Him”, teach them that a wise man is one that will seek the Lord every day through His Word. Teach them to seek it like it is a treasure chest full of gold. Because it is! God’s Word has riches more than we could ever know or tell. If we sought after it like this, we would never want to stop.
- Proverbs 2:1-6 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
- Psalms 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
- Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

4.Pray for God’s grace to be upon them.
-
- As they do the first three above, then God’s grace will be upon them. Those that lived righteously in the Bible always had the grace of God upon them. Grace can be described as God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. By His grace He enables us to live for Him, gives us strength in our weaknesses, and enables to press on in the midst of trials and hardships. The last verse of the Bible is Revelation 22:21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. How we need the grace of God in this evil day! Praise God we can come boldly to His throne of grace to find help in our time of need. We can find the help we need for our children and grandchildren as we come to the Lord.
