I, even I – God Himself
God Himself Declares-Genesis 6:17-22
“And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.” Genesis 6:17
Yes, God is a loving God, but we must never forget that He must exercise His wrath upon sin. We are born sinners and the wages of sin is death. Death passed upon all men because all have sinned. (Romans 5:12; Romans 6:23)
Unless we repent and believe we will all likewise perish. (Luke 33:1-5)
BUT…God makes a way to be saved
Gen 6:18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
God is a God of compassion
In spite of our wickedness He has compassion on us. He established a covenant with Noah and today the New Covenant has been established. Under the New Covenant, we are given the opportunity to receive salvation as a free gift (Ephesians 2:8–9).
When we have received this free gift by grace we are now seen as righteous
“For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Cor. 5:21)
It sure seemed like a long time while Noah was building the ark, but God is long suffering. He is not willing that any should perish. He was giving men time, so much time to believe and repent and be saved. He is still doing the same. He gives many warnings and we are reminded of His eternal wrath to come. He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked and He wants all men everywhere to repent. Yet, just as in the days of Noah, men refuse His grace and His mercy.
God makes provision for our needs
God provided everything Noah and and his family would need while on the ark. Animals and food were brought in for his household. (Genesis 6:19-20) When we enter the door to Salvation (Jesus is the door, the only way) then provision is made for all our needs.
Noah Obeyed Without Question
“Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he” Gen. 6:22
The greatest example to follow here is to obey God without question and the greatest error to avoid is to refuse to listen to the voice of God. Noah performed his duty to God by following specific instructions. He believe what God had promised, and that is not only Salvation through the ark, but that the wickedness of man would be judged.
I say I believe, but how I need to pray that God will help my unbelief. May God grant grace and mercy to us to follow and obey His Word without question. Let us not be distractd or intimidated by the world’s goods and it’s mockery. There is Salvation for all who believe! Praise God!
