Wisdom comes from knowing God's Word

Instilling Biblical Truths into my Grandchildren – Wisdom comes from Knowing God’s Word – Free Printable

Wisdom was a characteristic of my dad; in fact he was one of the wisest persons I knew.  I looked forward to spending time with him as a little girl and on into adulthood.  One of my favorite things to do was ride along with him when he was working. (He spent a lot of time on the road for his job)  He always took this opportunity to instill truths from God’s Word into my heart and soul and for that I am very grateful.

Wisdom comes from knowing God's Word

Warren Wiersbe (affiliate link) says:

“Daily I must be in the Word of God, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform my mind so that I don’t reason as the world does.”

God is the only only one who can give us the wisdom that we need all throughout our life. (Read 30 Lessons on Wisdom from Proverbs 30) There is no other better way to say it than what God says in His Word:

Proverbs 2:1-9 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

Proverbs 4:5-10 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

After I read these verses, I would tell my grandchildren to:

Get all you can, can all you get, and share all you can

Get all you can from God’s Word.  Can all you get – in other words, hide it in your heart, store it up there.  Don’t ever let it go away!  And at the same time, share it with others. (Proverbs 4:5-13)  As you read, study, and meditate on God’s Word you will get to know Him more and more.  You will realize that God’s Wisdom is:

PURE

PEACEABLE

GENTLE

EASY TO BE INTREATED

FULL OF MERCY

FULL OF GOOD FRUITS

NOT PARTIAL

WITHOUT HYPOCRISY

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Fearing God is the beginning of wisdom

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

If you fear God you will keep His commandments.  His commandments come from His Word.

Proverbs 8:32-36 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children:

for blessed are they that keep my ways.

Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

For whoso findeth me findeth life, (Here is how you find real life, abundant life!) and shall obtain favour of the LORD.

But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

There is really nothing I can say of myself!  It is all in God’s Word!  It can be summed up with this verse.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Solomon, the wisest man ever, summed up wisdom in the last chapter of Ecclesiastes.  He realized all was vanity unless you are learning and applying God’s Word, Words of truth, Words that prick our souls, Words that can fasten deeply to us and change us more into the image of God,  Words that come from the Great Shepherd Himself.
