Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. Psalm 1194

Mandates from God Psalm 119:4

Mandates are in every country at this time in our life. Many are divided over whether or not they are good or bad.  But God has given us a mandate and we can always trust that it will be good.

Reasons for diligence in Obeying God

In worldly affairs no weighty thing can be done without diligence; far less in spiritual.

For three causes should we keep the commandments of the Lord with diligence: first, because our adversary, that seeks to snare us by the transgression of them, is diligent in tempting; next, because we ourselves are weak and infirm; by the greater diligence have we need to take heed to ourselves; thirdly, because of the great loss we sustain by every advantage Satan gets over us.

For we find by experience that as a wound is sooner made than it is healed, so guiltiness of conscience is easily contracted, but not so easily done away. (Bishop Cowper.)

A Careful Obedience

I am commanded to love the Lord with all my heart, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37).  Am I careful to do this?  Do I pay attention as to whether or not I am really loving the Lord.  I my heart and soul in it?  Am I dwelling on it from moment to moment, day to day?

A zealous Obedience

I need to be eager to serve as much as possible.  It is a laborious and self denying obedience.  Don’t be weary in well doing for in due season I will reap if I don’t faint. (Galatians 6:9)

It’s God’s Command

Guess what?  His commands are not grievous.(1 John 5:3)  Why do I act as though they are sometimes?

His Grace Is sufficient

God Can Mandate

There are so many mandates going on right now in the name of health and loving your neighbor, etc.  But God, Himself, is the only one who can rightfully mandate anything.  We need to be diligent about keeping His mandates and obeying them to the fullest.  It’s very encouraging that when God mandates, He does it lovingly and all for the right reasons.  Yes, He commandments are not grievous.  This makes it much more pleasant to work at keeping them diligently.
