ONLY GOD
One night after dark, a religious Jewish leader came to see Jesus. He said to Jesus, no one can do the miracles you do except that he comes from God.
The Lord Jesus who knew the mind and heart of Nicodemus, went at once to the point.
Jesus said, “Except a man is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” John 3:3
Nicodemus needed to start over. All his religious activities counted for nothing and could not obtain God’s favor. All his self righteousness was worthless. He needed to realize that what he needed was a second birth and just as he contributed nothing to his first birth, he could contribute nothing to the second.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
John 4:4-8
Only God
Nothing “good” we do can ever contribute to receiving new life from God. It is not what we do, but what Christ has done for us.
We cannot save ourselves
The new birth is the exclusive work of God in us.
We cannot save ourselves.
We can contribute nothing to what Jesus Christ has accomplished. It is done, finished!
God must convict our heart of our own sin.
We must repent and turn to Him for forgiveness.
We are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone
None of us will be saved until we know we are lost. We will not believe the good news until we know the bad news, that we are sinners in need of the Savior. Like Nicodemus, we are stranded without hope. But hope comes when we accept the Truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Accept Him today and become a new creature in Him.
