School Should Begin At Home
It’s Back to School Time … Public School, Private School, or Home School? Which one? Only you and the Lord can decide that, but I do know that all schooling should begin at home. Spurgeon wrote a great devotional that goes along well with this idea. That can be found here.

“Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.” – Joel1:3
And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. Isaiah 54:13
Children learn by example.
Be sure to hand down your witness for the gospel to them. Be a living testimony and show them what the Lord has done and is doing, and teach them what He will do. Remind them over and over that The Lord hath done great things for us whereof we are glad! I have this verse on my living room wall. God’s grace will help you to be a daily godly example to them.
Begin your ministry at home
Is your family first? Or do you send a message that ministry is first and you must get to the highway and hedges to bring them in! Yes, these things are important, but your home should be your first priority. Our children are the only “things” we can take with us into eternity and how sad it would be if we neglected them and therefore they wanted no part of what Christ has to offer. The result may be that they end up lost forever! Remember: Jerusalem first, then Samaria and the uttermost part.
Teaching our Children is a Personal Duty
We always expect Sunday School Teachers and Christian School Teachers to teach the Truths of God’s Word to our children and they definitely should, but it is our obligation first. Don’t expect others to reform your children if you aren’t teaching them and nurturing them in the admonition of the Lord. It is our sacred obligation. Just like Abraham, we our to command our households of the fear of the Lord and talk of all His wondrous works.
Impact on the Church, Nation, and Others
As we instruct our children in the fear of the Lord, it will also have an impact on our churches and our nation itself. (Think of Daniel and The Three Hebrew Children) Obviously, their parents taught them the fear of the Lord right from the start and because of it they were able to stand strong for The Truth and have a great impact on heathen nations.
Joyous Times
What joyous times I remember as my husband took opportunities along the way to instruct our children in the
Word of God. This wasn’t just family devotional time, but as Deuteronomy says, he taught them diligently when we were sitting in the house, when we were outside walking or working, when we were ready for bed, and when each new day began. Much time was spent in the car going to and from church and school which made a great opportunity to teach God’s Word and it’s principles.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7
What a joyous time when we saw our children, one by one, come to know Jesus or return to Him from a backslidden state! There is no greater joy than to know that your children are walking in Truth!
Keep your living testimony alive
By God’s grace I want to keep our testimony alive and keep handing it down to my grandchildren. How wonderful it will be to watch them begin families and pass it down to their children and on into generation after generation. I often pray that our family name will go on from generation to generation in the fear of the Lord; I pray the same thing for my children’s’ spouse’s families also.
Here are some good ideas to help occupy the littles during your homeschool time or any time.
Answers in Genesis is a great place to add curriculum for your homeschooling. I personally have used their Bible Curriculum for Sunday School and Wednesday night Children’s Activities.
