But God can even lead the little ones.
We cannot play God in their lives, but only trust Him.
My husband and I read a book together called Rescue the Captors by Russell Stendal. I laughed out loud when we read about this man’s conversion as a child. It was so exciting and such Simple child faith. He just took God at His Word. Anyone can have simple child-like faith. Here is what He says:
My father was a civil engineer in charge of large construction projects in Minnesota. By the time I was two years old, I had learned to talk fluently. I was a fast developing kid and always seemed to be one jump ahead of my parents. My mom spent a lot of time reading me Bible stories and teaching me about God. Being an inquisitive child, one day I asked, “Mommy, where does God live?” My mother thought for a moment before replying, “God lives in heaven but He can also live in peoples’ hearts.” I asked, “Does He live in your heart?” Mother said, “Yes.” I asked, “Does He live in Daddy’s heart?” Mother said, “Yes, God lives in Daddy’s heart too.” I asked next about Stuart and Eleanor, who were friends of my parents. My mother answered that yes, God lived in their hearts too. Then I asked about Dennis and Terry, the sons of Stuart and Eleanor Watson. My mother said that while she was sure that God lived in Dennis’ heart, she wasn’t sure about Terry. He was even younger than I was. She explained that in order for God to come into a person’s heart, that person has to ask Him in. I thought about that for a minute and then asked, “Does He live in my heart?” My mom started getting a little flustered at this point because she thought I was still a little too young to handle such deep spiritual matters. She replied that when I was older, I could ask God to come into my heart too. At this point I climbed down off of her lap and knelt beside the bed. I prayed in a loud voice, “Come into my heart, Jesus. Come into my heart, God.” Then I stood up and jumped up and down exclaiming, “He’s in there!” My mother was flabbergasted.
