Thankful - God can furnish a table in the wilderness

Thanksgiving and Praise To God – God Can Furnish A Table Even In The Wilderness

Do you feel as though you are in a wilderness right now?  What’s happening?  Where are we going?  Where is God in all of this?  Can He furnish our needs?

The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years.  Why?  Because of their unbelief and disobedience to God.  And yet, even in this God was taking care of them.  He spread a table before them and provided their food.  They complained, but God sent manna.  Every day it was there to gather and to make the sustenance they needed for the day.

Psalm 78:17-18

And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

Yet, they still complained.  They got tired of manna.  They wanted some meat.  They griped to Moses and said we want meat.  Yet there was no possible way to get it in the wilderness.  They said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

What were they talking about?  God had already been furnishing their table. But they weren’t satisfied.

Because of their murmuring, they only stirred God’s anger.  You want meat, said God.  You’ve got it!   And Quail came out of nowhere.  There was so much of it and they gathered it and ate meat for a month until they were so sick of it!  Yes, God can provide us a table anywhere!  I think sometimes God gives us what we beg for just to teach us a lesson.  We are not to ask to consume it upon our own lusts.  We are to ask in faith and according to God’s Will.

In Psalm 23:5, we’re told the He prepared us a table in the presence of our enemies and our cup runs over!  Wow!  What a mighty and gentle Shepherd!  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

What table does He provide?

He certainly provides our tables with lots of good things to eat.  For that we should always be thankful.  But what about His spiritual table?

O Taste and See

Let’s taste of His spiritual table.

Psalm 9:2 says wisdom hath also furnished her tablePerfect wisdom is from God and it is there for us whenever we need it. We are urged to come eat and drink at His table, to forsake our foolish ways and live.

In Proverbs 3:3, we are told to take His Word and write it on the table of our hearts.   Perhaps if we did more of this, we would get to know God better and realize that He knows what He is doing.  It might stop our complaining and murmuring against Him, our disobedience and disbelief.  We may begin to realize that His ways are higher than ours and we can trust Him for every single thing.  It may cause us to follow Him the right way the first time so we don’t have to “wander in the wilderness”.  It may keep us from doubting that He is God and that He can furnish us a table anywhere with all the provisions we need.

During stressful and uncertain days, go continually to God’s table.  There is always a feast there ready to satisfy your hungry soul.

Never doubt that God can furnish a table.  Instead,

Praise Him that He does prepare us a table in the midst of our enemies.

Praise Him that His ways are not our ways and He knows exactly what He is doing.

Praise Him for His Word and then keep writing it on the table of your heart.  Keep it there and it will keep you from sin.

YES, GOD DOES FURNISH A TABLE.  TASTE AND SEE THAT HE IS GOOD.
