The Path of the Just – Are you on it?
Are you on the path of the just? There are only two paths in this world, one that is broad and leads to destruction and the other which is narrow and leads to life everlasting. The latter is the path of the just. Which one are you on?
Proverbs 4:18 says
The path of the just
is as a shining light that shineth
more and more
unto the perfect day.
If you’re on this path, then your daily prayer ought to be
Teach me your paths and show me your ways oh Lord.
Make your word a lamp for me feet today to light the way in which I should go
The entrance of God’s Words gives us light. As we daily trust it, it continues to light our pathway. It may not be a lot of light at times, but just enough to know the next step. Maybe it’s just enough light to sit and rest along the pathway, to Be still and know that He is God.
Each day as we do obey the Word of God and ask for His direction, the path gets brighter and brighter until we reach glory to be forever with that Perfect Light.
Remember, God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness (Genesis 1) can shine in your heart. Why? He is the Light of the World. He has come to shine that light in your heart to give you knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Have you come to the light?
The whole world was lost in the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Refrain:
Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the light has dawned upon me;
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!
No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
We walk in the light when we follow our Guide!
The Light of the world is Jesus
Ye dwellers in darkness with sin-blinded eyes,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Go, wash at His bidding, and light will arise;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
No need of the sunlight in Heaven we’re told;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
The Lamb is the Light in the city of gold,
The Light of the world is Jesus!

The thoughts below are from a book on Proverbs by Robert Jones
The path of the just, or righteous person is illustrated by a familiar scene in nature, the dawning of a new day. The shining light is the sun, which before it is even visible on the eastern horizon, sends forth rays of light which begin to dispel the night darkness. As it rises in the sky, its brightness increases to noonday intensity when it cannot be steadfastly beholden by the human eye on a clear day, and all details on the face of the earth become plainly visible.
Such is the experience of a child of God. His birth into the world is as a fallen son of Adam with an evil heart of unbelief. This is the night of the soul, when it is, as described in Ephesians 2:1, dead in trespasses and sins, and in John 3:36, abiding under the wrath of God. So the soul continues until God’s Holy Spirit, using His holy law, begins to convince the conscience of its sins and the heart of its unbelief, revealing the need of a perfect righteousness found only in Jesus Christ, and impressing upon the mind the fear of Satan’s judgment to come for sin.
This time of spiritual awakening in the life of a sinner may be of short or long duration, but he no longer takes delight in sinning, and seeks rather to escape the punishment of hell which his sins deserve. Then comes the revelation of God’s love and mercy to him as the gospel of Christ is understood and believed: “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (II Cor. 4:6). This knowledge fills the soul with the light of heavenly truth, and the Spirit of God dwells within. The law of God that before could not be kept is now the delight of the heart.
Though possessing eternal life, the soul is not yet at the excellence of its glory as long as it abides in the world beset with the enemies of indwelling sin, worldly lusts, and the malice of Satan. But by looking to Jesus, the heir of heaven grows in grace and progresses in sanctification, becoming increasingly like his glorious Master: “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (II Cor. 3:18).
Also in all daily decisions the Christian learns to seek and obtain the light of God upon his pathway. When in perplexity he does not trust his own wisdom, but depends on the light of scripture and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead him into all truth, trusting the promise of Psalm 119:130: “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
In sad contrast is the person who continues in an unconverted state, going his own way, disregarding the commands, promises, and threatenings of God’s Word. Some darling sin or lust will become the stumblingblock of his soul, resulting in a fall into eternal destruction if mercy prevent it not. “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” (I Cor. 10:12)
