I’m Going To Give You A Bear Hug! – A Book Review
Who doesn’t like hugs? And especially great big bear hugs? “I’m Going To Give You A Bear Hug!” by Caroline B. Cooney and illustrated by Tim Warnes is just what it says: a book about hugs.
In this book you will find all kinds of hugs – bear hugs, dog hugs, cat hugs, horse hugs, and many other critter hugs. It ends with a mom hug which is a way beyond compare hug. The book is based off a poem that the author wrote for her children who are now grown.
It is meant to be a playful and comforting bedtime book that imagines all the wonderful ways a child might give and receive a hug. It would also make a great book as a Valentine gift for one of the littles.

Likes and Dislikes
I like the idea of the book and a few of my grandkids seemed to enjoy the book as one of the older grandchildren read it to them. Hugs are wonderful and stories before bed about hugs are great. The pictures are cute and attractive.
However, I really wasn’t attracted to all of the different critter hugs. For myself, I would not love being hugged by some of these critters; I would simply prefer people hugs from my family and close friends – some of my grandkids might like the critters; others probably would not.
It is a Zonderkidz book so it might have been nice if it had a little more spiritual application besides, say your prayers and kiss good night. Perhaps compare it to God’s love and how He “hugs us tight” and cares for us way beyond any other kind of hug we could get.
